Brown progresses to snowboarding semis

The New Zealand women's snowboarder Kendall Brown has qualified for the halfpipe semi-finals at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, while the country's other two competitors have missed out.

20-year-old Brown posted a second-run score of 29.5 to place an overalll 16th after scoring a lowly 11.4 on her first attempt.

New Zealand's top snowboarder Juliane Bray placed 24th after she was unable to complete a clean run, and 18-year-old Rebecca Sinclair finished 21st, three points away from gaining a finals spot.

The top 18 snowboarders progressed, with those ranked 7th through 18th to compete in the semis at 1pm.

Earlier biathlete Sarah Murphy was 82nd in the 15km individual race at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
