Strong cycling squad named for World Champs

Bike New Zealand have selected an 18-strong squad to prepare for next month's World Track Cycling Championships in Copenhagen.

New Zealand will mount their biggest-ever campaign with 16 riders to compete from March the 24th to 28th.

Competition for places has meant the selectors have chosen a wider training group that will be pruned to the final 16 riders to compete in Copenhagen to be named in mid-March.

The squad will go into camp in Invercargill at the end of February for three weeks before departing for Europe.

Bike New Zealand national coach Tim Carswell says the focus is for selected riders tochallenge for medals in each of their targeted events.

The women's squad is: Kaytee Boyd Rushlee Buchanan, Gemma Dudley. Lauren Ellis, Jaimie Nielsen Alison Shanks and the men's is: Sam Bewley, Eddie Dawkins, Hayden Godfrey, Wes Gough, Peter Latham, Ethan Mitchell, Marc Ryan, Tom Scully , Jesse. Sergent , Adam Stewart (Ch, Simon van Velthooven and Sam Webster.
