Hockey world cup decision pending

6:40 pm on 22 February 2010

New Zealand Hockey will announce this afternoon whether the Black Sticks will go to the World Cup in India.

New Zealand's involvement in the tournament was thrown into doubt last week after the terrorist group Al Qaeda warned countries not to travel to the Delhi event.

A Hockey New Zealand spokesperson says the team, which is in Perth, has been briefed on the security situation in India over the weekend.

The Spokesperson says it is waiting for the players to declare their availability for the tournament before a final decision is made.

The New Zealand Press Association has reported this morning the Black Sticks coach Shane McLeod as saying that the team will leave for India today on schedule.
