Andrew McFadden knew his time as the Warriors head coach was up before the 2016 NRL regular season had even finished.

McFadden has been demoted to an assistant coaching role to make way for Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney.
Kearney's record as a head coach is worse than McFadden's, winning less than a quarter of his games in the two years he was coach of the Parramatta Eels in 2011 and 2012.
Despite Kearney's record, the Warriors managing director Jim Doyle said that status quo wasn't an option going forward and McFadden agreed to step aside.
McFadden said he knew his time was up after the penultimate round of the NRL competition.
"I knew I was always under pressure.
"I was never given any ultimatum but I knew that we needed to play finals. I've had two shots at it previously and I knew I needed to get this done.
"When we lost against the Tigers it was certainly going to be difficult for the club and I thought even personally that it's probably time."

Following the side's loss to the Eels in the final round, McFadden met with Doyle to discuss his future, following that conversation negotiations with Kearney began.
While McFadden's predecessors got the chop completely, Kearney wanted the Australian to stay on with the club as an assistant alongside Stacey Jones.
"I had to meet with Stephen and fortunately for me the conversation went well and I get a chance to keep working here," McFadden said.
McFadden said he still has ambitions to be a head coach in the NRL in the future but for the time being his new position is the right one for the club and him personally.
