NZ Hockey team okay with Child's decision

The New Zealand men's hockey coach Shane McLeod says he fully respects Simon Child's decision not to go to India with the rest of the team for this month's World Cup.

McLeod says in the environment of India you have to be fully comfortable with everything and if Child wasn't feeling that, then it is the right decision.

Yesterday New Zealand Hockey announced that the team would head to Delhi despite a terrorist threat to the tournament.

21-year old Child, who has more than a hundred caps, made a late decision not to fly out from Perth with the rest of the team saying the heightened security coupled with fatigue were not conducive to him playing his best hockey.

McLeod says they would never force a player into anything and his decision will not affect his future prospects.

McLeod says they are really supportive of him and his decision and says the rest of the team has rallied around him.
