Stand-in Queensland rugby captain Will Genia says he will let his performance dictate his leadership style when he leads the Reds against the Blues in their Super 14 clash at Ballymore this Saturday night.
Genia steps into the captaincy role following the season-ending knee injury sustained by James Horwill during the Reds' inspiring 41-20 win over the Crusaders last Friday night at Lang Park.
The selection as captain continues what has been a remarkable 12 months for the Papua New Guinea-born Genia, who made his Test debut off the bench against New Zealand in Auckland last year before firmly establishing himself as the Wallabies starting half-back later in the Tri-Nations series.
He will be one of the youngest ever Reds captain at 22 years of age, but the confidence and on-field initiative he has shown so far in this year's Super 14 has left few doubting that he is ready to take on such responsibility.
The Reds' encounter with the Blues will be the first Super rugby match played at Ballymore since 2005.
Lang Park has been their regular home since then, but they've failed to get anywhere near the grounds capacity of 53 thousand.
