The Bulls lock Victor Matfield has been cleared of foul play after he was cited for striking Brumbies flanker Rocky Elsom around the head during their Super 14 rugby match in Pretoria on the weekend.

South Africa New Zealand and Australia Rugby (SANZAR) has issued a statement which says Matfield was deemed to have cleared Elsom in a lawful manner after a video review.

However, the Chiefs number eight Sione Lauaki has been suspended for two weeks after lifting Lions centre Deon van Rensburg and failing to lower him safely to the ground during their match in Johannesburg.

The Lions lock Willem Stoltz was also suspended for a week for striking Chiefs' hooker Aled de Malmanche in the face with his elbow during the same match.
