WRC about to bypass Rally NZ

7:13 pm on 24 February 2010

It looks as if May 's round of the World Rally Championship will be the last time the WRC comes to New Zealand.

Under the rotation system operating in recent years it's Australia's turn next year .

After that though Autosport magazine says the WRC's new promoter has proposed a 14 round competition with Australia and Argentina the only southern hemisphere hosts.

The WRC commission;'s president Morrie Chandler says the report's not wholly accurate but North One Sport does want to raise the WRC's profile and that'll influence the final choice.

Chandler says lack of a main sponsor's one problem for New Zealand but another is that while tourism organisations in other countries are hugely involved with the WRC New Zealand governments have been interested in only the rugby World Cup.
