Slovakian ice hockey player stable after hit

The Slovakian ice hockey player Lubos Bartecko is in a stable condition in hospital after copping an elbow to the head during a qualification game at the Vancouver Winter Olympics yesterday against Norway.

Bartecko fell backward after being struck by Norway's Ole Kristian Tollefsen and fell backward hitting his head on the ice as blood poured from the back of his head.

Tollefsen, the only current NHL player in the Norwegian team, was ejected from the game.
