Hurricanes not commenting on Hammett as new head coach

7:31 pm on 25 February 2010

The Hurricanes chief executive Greg Peters says an announcement on who'll take over as head coach of the Super 14 rugby side is imminent.

The Dominion Post has reported that Crusaders assistant coach Mark Hammett is favourite to get the position in Wellington.

However Peters wouldn't confirm the story other than to say that he is one of the applicants and that an announcement isn't far away.

Current Hurricanes coach Colin Cooper is standing down after this season and will take charge of the Taranaki NPC side.
