Vettori and Clarke praise Tendulkar for first one day double century

7:30 pm on 25 February 2010

The New Zealand and Australian captains, Dan Vettori and Michael Clarke, have paid tribute to the latest cricketing milestone achieved by Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar, who's 36, scored the first double century in a one day international, making 200 not out off 147 balls to steer his side to an unbeatable 2-nil lead in their series against South Africa.

The previous highest score in a one day international was 196.

Vettori says Tendulkar is an inspiration to fellow players and that after 20 years on the international scene he still has the desire to perform while Clarke says Tendulkar is the best batsman he's ever played against.

New Zealand and Australia play the first of two Twenty-20 matches tomorrow night in Wellington.
