The Black Ferns led 17-3 at half-time and scored five tries to none.

Flanker Sarah Goss, prop Toka Matua and wing Honey Hireme scored first-half tries, while wing Portia Woodman and fullback Selica Winiata touched down in the second half.

Kendra Cocksedge kicked two conversions.

It was a vastly improved performance by the Wallaroos, who were beaten 67-3 at Eden Park on Saturday.

With the New Zealanders making numerous mistakes in the second half, the Australians dominated possession but were unable to cross the line.

Black Ferns captain Fiao'o Faamausili said she was happy with most parts of their game.

"We knew the Australians were going to bring it to us today and full credit to them for doing that, but we take pride in our defence and we did all right with that today."

The Black Ferns head to Europe next month to play three games against England in London, and Canada and Ireland in Dublin.
