The American golfer Diana D'Alessio leads Australia's Sarah Kemp by one stroke after two rounds of the New Zealand women's Open at Pegasus north of Christchurch.

D'Alessio 's first round left her two behind the overnight leader, Marianne Skarpnord, but the Norwegian, who started with a 65 had a one over 73 is two behind Kemp in tie for third with South Africa's Ashleigh .

Meanwhile 12-year-old Lydia Ko has almost certainly achieved her main goal of making the cut, following up her one under first round of 71 with a 73 to be well inside the projected cut of three-over par.

Ko recently became a New Zealand citizen and will make her national debut against Australia in Wellington next month.
