The Auckland fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is set to make his international cricket debut after being named in the New Zealand squad for next week's Chappell-Hadlee one day series in Australia next week.

The 25-year-old, who reportedly bowls in excess of 150 kph, is the only new cap in the squad for the Chappell-Hadlee series with the 2015 World Cup winners.

Ross Taylor, Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan, George Worker and Corey Anderson were unavailable due to injury.

The Black Caps selector Gavin Larsen said Ferguson "bowls at a pace which gives our bowling attack a different option."

Missing however is Wellington batsman and wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi, having been dropped after disappointing form in the one day series in India where he had scores of 0,6 and 1.

Since scoring 170 not out against Sri Lanka in January last year Ronchi's had 28 ODI innings but failed to score a half century and reached double figures only ten times.

He's replaced by test wicketkeeper BJ Watling.

"Todd and Colin de Grandhomme have both been in our thinking for ODIs and their ability with bat and ball gives the squad an important balance.

"It's good to see Colin Munro return and immediately have an impact for Auckland. He's shown how dynamic a batsman he is, so it's great to have him available again, especially in Ross's absence."

New Zealand currently holds the Chappell-Hadlee trophy and the first game of the three match series is in Sydney on Sunday week.
