Dawkins claims gold at Oceania Championship

Cyclist Eddie Dawkins has won gold in the kierin at the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Melbourne, leading a clean sweep of medals for New Zealand in the event.

The world championship silver medallist beat promising Manawatu rider Jordan Castle, with Dawkins' fellow Rio Olympic team sprint medallist Sam Webster coming third.

There were further medals in the two-rider Madison with Michaela Drummond pairing with Racquel Sheath to finish second in the women's race behind Australia.

Regan Gough teamed with Tom Sexton to finish third in the men's Madison won by Miles Scotson and Kelland O'Brien from Australia.

In the junior men's kierin, Jackson Ogle impressed to finish second while in the junior women's scratch race Ellesse Andrews placed second with Emily Shearman third.
