Portsmouth voluntary receivership challenged

7:15 pm on 2 March 2010

The English Premier League football club Portsmouth have been called back to the High Court after the Revenue and Customs department challenged its decision to go into voluntary receivership.

Andrew Andronikou, the receiver, had been due to meet Premier League officials to try to find a way around what should be an automatic nine-point deduction for going into receivership but that meeting's now been postponed.

Portsmouth is bottom of the Premier League and its debt is estimated to be about $170 million.
