Fox carded a three under 69 to leave him in a share of 27th place.

He made two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine before starting the back nine with three consecutive birdies.

It's his first round as a fully fledged member of the European Tour after finishing inside the top 15 in the second tier Challenger Tour last season.

The 29-year-old is five shots behind leader Henrik Stenson, the Swede carded an eight under 64 to hold a two shot lead.

The world number four was bogey free through his first 18 holes and even chipped in from 30 yards away for birdie on the fifth.

Three time Abu Dhabi champion, German Martin Kaymer, is in a tie for second at six uner alongside Great Britain's Oliver Fisher and Marc Warren and Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand.
