Queensland Rugby require financial assistance

12:57 pm on 5 March 2010

The Queensland Rugby Union has asked the governing body of the sport in Australia for a cash bailout, local media is reporting.

The Queensland Union's chief executive Jim Carmichael says they have been to see the Australian Rugby Union to discuss financial matters and other issues.

Carmichael says they're seeking assistance from the Australian Rugby Union and are yet to reach a resolution.

The union has suffered from falling attendances at its Queensland Reds Super 14 matches, while $NZ1.3 million was written off in depreciation of their traditional home ground of Ballymore in Brisbane each year.

Charmichael says the two Unions are working together to develop short, medium and long term solutions.
