Black Sticks beaten by Argentina

The New Zealand men's hockey teams hopes of making the semi-finals at the World Cup in Delhi have been dented after a 1-nil loss to Argentina.

Captain Phil Burrows was again unable to play because of injury and without having Simon Child at the tournament the Black Sticks were lacking some penetration up front... they also missed a penalty stroke in the first half.

Coach Shane McLeod is very disappointed, he says there was always only going to be a goal in it and missing the stroke would have given them the advantage they could have probably held onto.

The New Zealanders will now need to beat defending champions Germany in their last pool match on Wednesday morning and hope other matches go their way to have any chance of making the semi-finals.

Germany drew 2-all with the Netherlands this morning while South Korea remain in contention for a semi-final spot after beating Canada 9-2.

The Netherlands have 10 points, Germany 8, Korea 7 and New Zealand 6.

England and Australia top the other pool.
