Canoe Racing NZ says Ben Fouhy hasn't fallen out with selectors

The Olympic medallist Ben Fouhy is taking an indefinite break from kayaking but Canoe Racing New Zealand chief executive says a report he's quit the sport after falling out with the selectors isn't true.

Paula Kearns says the former K1 1000 world champion and Athens silver medalist told her he was taking another break, citing personal reasons, and hasn't indicated when, or if, he'll return.

She says while they're disappointed because Fouhy's one of their most talented athletes they're still on good terms with him.

Last year he gave up kayaking to train for Ironman New Zealand and also competed at the World Ironman championship in Hawaii.

After winning the K1 1000 national title at Rotorua Fouhy missed the national trials on Lake Karapiro this week so he isn't eligible for World Cup regattas in Europe and the world championships in Germany in August.
