Bond set to leave for IPL next week

12:53 pm on 12 March 2010

The New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond is set to play in the Indian Premier League with indications the security situation is satisfactory.

Bond and Jacob Oram are the first two New Zealand players eligible for the IPL once their one day duties finish with the Black Caps this weekend, however Oram is still recovering from a knee injury.

The IPL was one of the events reportedly targetted by a terrorist threat.

The head of the New Zealand Cricket Players Association Heath Mills says the situation in India is improving but he's still not completely satsified.

He says if it was the national side going, he wouldn't be completely happy as he'd prefer to have everything in place months before.

However, he says this is about individuals and so the final decision is theirs.

He says he's kept the players well informed and believes the New Zealanders will travel.

The other New Zealand players, Daniel Vettori, Ross Taylor and Brendan McCullum, won't be available for the IPL until after the test series against Australia.

The IPL starts tonight.
