The New Zealand cricket coach Mark Greatbatch says Black Caps haven't gone backwards over the Chappell Hadlee series, the'yve simply been beaten by a better team.
The results suggest otherwise thiough after Australia retained the trophy with last night's win in Auckland, giving them an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five game series which ends tomorrow in Wellington..
After winning game one the home side narrowly lost the second but were well beaten in games three and four when the Black Caps failed to bat their allotted 50 overs.
Greatbatch, says it must be remembered who they're playing.
He says Australia's the best side in the world. having won three World Cups, and New Zealanders need to be realistic about that.
But Greatbatch says the Black Caps batsmen must be more consister and ruthless when they get a start.
