The New Zealand cricket captain Dan Vettori admits he never thought a total of 241 would be enough to beat Australia in the fifth and final Chappell-Hadlee one day cricket match in Wellington last night.

While Australia lost the match by 51 runs they won the series 3-2.

Batting first the Black Caps the batting problems which have troubled the side throughout the series continued as the top order again failed.

Scott Styris top scored with 53 while Darryl Tuffey with 37 gave the New Zealand total some respectability.

The two sides now play two tests, the first of which starts in Wellington on Friday.
