Phoenix coach absolutely livid over handball controversy

The Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert couldn't hide his disgust after a handball controversy involving Sydney FC striker Chris Payne helped the Sky Blues to a 4-2 win in last night's A-League major semi-final at the Sydney Football Stadium.

In scenes reminiscent of Diego Maradona's famous "hand of God" and Thierry Henry's more recent "hand of Frog" goal, Payne appeared to use his forearm to give Sydney a crucial 2-1 lead just before halftime.

Herbert and the Phoenix captain Andrew Durante were filthy after the match, claiming it changed the course of the game and Herbert wasn't afraid to let his thoughts known.

Sydney will now face Melbourne in the A-league grand final next Saturday night.
