Cricket fans hoping to see Jesse Ryder play for New Zealand this summer will have to wait to see how he comes through training this week then, hopefully, a four day match with Wellington,
Coach Mark Greatbatch says it's too soon to say whether Ryder could play in the second test as he'd have to get through a first-class match and more tests to be pronounced 100 per cent fit.
But he says Ryder's on the way back from the abdominal muscle injury that's kept him out of cricket since October and required surgery last month.
Greatbatch says Ryder has a "bit of plan" after getting through two days of club cricket well and he'll be involved with Black Caps' training over the next few days.
After that he's likely to play for Wellington against Canterbury in Rangiora.
