New Zealand paralympic skier Adam Hall has won a gold medal in the slalom at Vancouver 2010 Winter Paralympic Games despite taking a tumble a third of the way down the course,

But Hall, who has spina bifida and races with his skis bound together, got up and still finished nearly a second ahead of his nearest competitor.

The 21-year-old from Otago finished his second run in a combined time of 1minute 45.40 seconds with Germany's silver medalist Gerad Schonfelder 0.57 of a second further back and the Australian Cameron Rahles-Rahbula in third.

Hall had earlier set himself up for the medal with a run of 50.95 seconds to lead after the first run, 2.1 seconds ahead of his nearest rival Rahles-Rahbula.

New Zealand last won a medal at a Paralympics Winter Games in 2002 at Salt Lake City
