Savea a man on a mission

There'll be a point to prove for key members of both the All Blacks and the British and Irish Lions when the tourists play the Hurricanes in Wellington tonight.

The Hurricanes backline has been boosted by the release of three players from the All Blacks squad, fullback Jordie Barrett, winger Julian Savea and centre Ngani Laumape.

Savea arguably has the most to prove after he was overlooked for the first test with Rieko Ioane playing on the left wing.

The Lions lock Courtney Lawes will be looking to force his way into the Lions test squad after an unlucky tour so far with the 28-year-old suffering a couple of head injuries during the campaign.

His athletic and combative partnership with English compatriot Maro Itoje against the Blues was one of the early tour highlights with the pair seemingly in contention for the test locking roles.
