Controversy follows former England football captain

Updated at 6:10 am on 18 March 2010

Chelsea have confirmed that their former captain John Terry was involved in an accident outside Stamford Bridge after their Champions league loss yesterday to Inter Milan.

The Metropolitan Police were called to Stamford Bridge after the night-time match, regarding a collision between a car and a security guard who suffered a broken leg.

The car, belonging to John Terry did not stop at the time, but Chelsea officials say Terry was in a very slow moving queue of traffic surrounded by photographers and fans, and wasn't aware of any incident.

Chelsea officials believes the security guard had not suffered a broken leg.

John Terry was stripped of the England captaincy last month following newspaper revelations that he had an extra-marital affair with the ex-partner of England and former Chelsea team mate Wayne Bridge.
