Fox cracks top 100

New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox has broken into the top 100 players in the world for the first time following his fourth placed finish at the Scottish Open on the weekend.

Fox has jumped from 122nd in the world to 95th, becoming New Zealand's second best ranked player behind Danny Lee who fell one spot to 77th.

On top of his rise in the rankings, Fox pocketed $350,000 for his effort in Scotland on the weekend.

American Dustin Johnson remains at the top of the men's world rankings with Japan's Hideki Matsuyama in second and American Jordan Spieth in third.

Japan Tour professional Michael Hendry is New Zealand's next best ranked golfer at 110 - he and Fox will tee it up this weekend at Royal Birkdale for the Open Championship.

Hendry will be the first New Zealander to tee off at 11.30pm on Thursday night, playing alongisde American Brian Harman and Scotland's Martin Laird.

Fox meanwhile, who's had a taste for links golf over the past two weeks, will tee off alongside American Matt Kuchar and Scottish professional Richie Ramsay at 12.30am on Friday morning.

Danny Lee didn't qualify for the Open is the second alternate for the tournament.
