Conditions do nothing for development of Super rugby

Conditions for Saturday's Super rugby quarter-final between the Highlanders and the Crusaders did nothing for the development of the game but Highlanders CEO Roger Clark has stopped short of saying the game should have been postponed.

The Crusaders won the match 17-nil to advance to the semi finals this weekend where they will play the Chiefs.

Former All Black and Highlanders player and now rugby commentatory Jeff Wilson has said the game should have been delayed a day.

Clark has lamented Christchurch's lack of a covered stadium, like Dunedin's Forsyth Barr stadium.

"For fans that watch games at Forsyth-Barr stadium it's pretty obvious to everybody that it's a fantastic venue to run a game...and for the players to play a game because you've got great conditions for them to showcase their skills," he said.

"You get a game like the weekend and it harks back to the 70's and 80's where we were playing in the mud and that's not the way New Zealand rugby has evolved. In saying that when you play a games in July in the South Island it's more than likely it's going to be wet."
