New Zealand golfers cause upsets

7:30 pm on 22 March 2010

Three New Zealand golfers, including the 15-year-old women's stroke play winner Cecilia Cho of Auckland, have won their first round matches in the Australian Amateur Championships in Perth.

Cho won her match on the 16th hole at Lake Karrinyup Country Club, accounting for Queensland's Susan Glasby 3 and 2 while Ben Campbell of Masterton and Tauranga's Andrew Stewart disposed of two leading Australian hopes.

Campbell was too strong for the third seed Luke Bleumink , winning 3 and 2 while Stewart ended the hopes of another Victorian, the fourth seed Ryan Woodward by the same margin after leading 4-up after 11 holes.

They'd had to endure sudden death extra holes in the final round of strokeplay yesterday just to qualify for the matchplay phase.
