Tuffey out for six weeks with broken hand

7:33 am on 24 March 2010

The Black Caps pace bowler Darryl Tuffey will be out of cricket for up to six weeks with a broken hand.

Tuffey suffered the injury when he was struck on the hand facing Mitchell Johnson during his gritty innings of 47 not out in the first test at the Basin Reserve, and he'll undergo surgery tomorrow.

Apart from missing the second test, Tuffey will also be in doubt for the Twenty20 World Cup starting at the end of next month in the West Indies.

The Black Caps were all out for 407 in their second innings at the Basin Reserve, and the Australian opener Phil Hughes scored 86 of the 106 runs they required for a 10-wicket victory.

The second and final test starts in Hamilton on Saturday.
