10:43 am on 24 March 2010

The New Zealand track cycling team is hoping Alison Shanks can kick-start their World Championship campaign with success in Copenhagen tomorrow morning.

Shanks will defend her individual pursuit title on the opening day.

New Zealand has a 17-strong team at the Champs, hoping to emulate their performance last year in Poland when they won a gold, silver and bronze medal.

Head coach Tim Carswell says Shanks is in good form for rhe last couple months and is prtobabl;y as good as she was last year iof not a little better but there'll be plenty of tough oppisition

Carswell has selected Adam Stewart, Sam Webster and Eddie Dawkins to compete in the team sprint tonight and while he's not expecting too much from the young lineup he feels they can impress.

And Tom Scully will compete in the men's points race tonight.
