Campbell and Cho lose final's at Australian Amateur Matchplay Champs

The New Zealand golfers Cecilia Cho and Ben Campbell have finished as runners-up in the Australian Amateur Matchplay Championships in Perth.

Neither player was able to replicate their extraordinary scoring from yesterday's semi-finals where they made 16 birdies between them, and were well beaten by the Australians Stacey Keating and Matt Jager in the finals at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club.

The 15-year-old Cho, six-down after 18 holes, was unable to stem the charge as Keating reeled off four more birdies in the afternoon to run out emphatic winner 10 and 8.

Campbell was three-down at the halfway stage.

The Wairarapa player grabbed the 20th hole to reduce the margin but Jager then won four holes in a row, three of them with birdies, to put the game out of reach, finally prevailing 8 and 7.

The pair return home on Friday and head straight to Wellington to join the New Zealand team to take on the Australians in the Trans Tasman Cup at Royal Wellington Golf Club next Monday and Tuesday.
