Brumbies beat Chiefs

The ACT Brumbies have narrowly beaten the Chiefs 30-23 in their Super 14 rugby match in Canberra, the Waikato side's third straight loss.

Former Australia fullback Julian Huxley made a triumphant return to top-level rugby in the match, after a two-year absence following surgery and treatment for a brain tumour.

The 30-year-old was forced out of the sport two years ago after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour that required surgery and chemotherapy. He had played two games for a Brumbies development side before being named on the bench by coach Andy Friend.

Huxley received a standing ovation from the crowd when he came on as a 12th-minute replacement for Francis Fainifo, who was taken off with a suspected broken leg.

The home side led 17-16 at half-time.
