6:46 pm on 29 March 2010

New Zealand Golf chief executive Bill MacGowan is stepping down to take up new responsibilities within the organisation.

MacGowan has decided to change his career direction and utilise his extensive sports experience working as an independent contractor both within golf and across a variety of other sports.

In the past three years MacGowan has overseen the successful rebirth of the New Zealand Open, initiated the New Zealand Women's Open, brought in major constitutional change, identified key issues and strategies to grow the game, brought in three years of positive balance sheets and managed the move of the organisation from Wellington to Auckland.

Commercial Manager Dean Murphy will continue in his role of Acting CEO until a replacement is appointed.
