Kiwis ring the changes for Scotland

4:13 pm on 31 October 2017

The Kiwis playmaker Shaun Johnson will have a new halves partner for the side's next Rugby League World Cup match against Scotland in Christchurch on Saturday night.

Te Maire Martin will start at five-eighth in just his second Test, replacing Kodi Nikorima.

Martin, who plays for North Queensland in the NRL, and Johnson are roomates this week which has helped build a rapport said Johnson.

"Me and young Te Maire are rooming together which is pretty good, so we get to know each other off the field and hopefully that translates onto the field."

Martin wasn't quite so sure about being roomates with Johnson joking - "it's not too bad..we're getting along pretty well but he's bit annoying sometimes, but other than that he goes alright.

"On the field he's pretty easy to get along with and the combination will grow over the week (in training)," said Martin.

In all there are seven changes to the squad which beat Samoa 38-8 in the Kiwis tournament opener at Mt Smart stadium on Saturday night.

Scotland were trounced 50-4 by Tonga in their tournament opener.
