The return of Jesse Ryder to international cricket and the inclusion of one new cap, are the major points of interest in the New Zealand squad selected for next month's Twenty-20 world cup in the West Indies.

The new cap is Canterbury's Rob Nicol while Ryder is back after several months off with an abdominal injury.

He marked his return to first class cricket with a century for Wellington earlier this week.

Darryl Tuffey and Neil Broom weren't considered because of injury.

Coach Mark Greatbatch says the side will have a training camp in Brisbane before the tournament at which Ryder and other players who're are coming back from injury, Jacob Oram, Kyle Mills, Aaron Redmond and Ian Butler will have to prove they're fully fit.

The full squad is: Daniel Vettori captain, Shane Bond, Ian Butler, Martin Guptill, Gareth Hopkins, Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Rob Nicol, Jacob Oram, Aaron Redmond, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Scott Styris and Ross Taylor.
