Big toe injury puts Highlanders prop out for six weeks

The Highlanders prop Jamie Mackintosh has suffered a toe injury that will keep out of the Super 14 rugby competition for at least six weeks.

The team doctor Sandy Webb says the complaint, commonly known as turf toe, is an injury associated with front rowers, with the big toe injured during scrummaging.

Mackintosh was forced from the field with the injury during the Highlanders match against the South African side, the Lions, last week in Dunedin.

He says it's frustrating to suffer an injury to such a small part of his body but is hopeful of returning to the field before the end of the competition.
