The Flea singlehandedly beats Arsenal

Barcelona's Lionel Messi mesmerised Arsenal so much over the two legs of their Champions League football quarter-final they were left chasing shadows.

That's the view of Arsenal's admiring manager Arsene Wenger.

Known as the Flea, the World Player of the Year single-handedly led the European champions into a semi-final against Inter Milan, scoring all of Barcelona's goals in the 4-1 over Arsenal at the Nou Camp.

Messi's now the top scorer in the Champions League with eight goals and the FIFA World Player of the Year has scored 26 in Spain's La Liga.

And while there hasn't been a lot for Manchester United boss Sir Alex Fergusson to smile about in recent days, with United being eliminated from the Champions League and surrendering their league in the English Premiership, things are looking up in another sporting arena.

A horse he co-owns, What A Friend, won the feature race on the opening day of the Grand National meeting at Aintree, to have the usually dour Scotsman, in a celebratory mood.
