American free to play pending doping probe

The American tennis player Wayne Odesnik, who has pleaded guilty to importing human growth hormone into Australia, can continue to play competitively pending an International Tennis Federation investigation.

24 year old Odesnik had his luggage searched by customs officers at Brisbane airport early in the New Year when he arrived to prepare for the Australian Open and after pleading guilty in court he was fined 8,000 dollars.

Odesnik has denied ever taking any banned substances, and the head of the ITF's anti-doping unit Dr Stuart Miller says until their investigation into the matter is complete, they have no choice under their rules but to allow Odesnik to continue playing.
