Jones: Melbourne shouldn't have been added to Super rugby

Former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones doesn't think a fifth Australian team should have been added to the Super rugby competition.

From next year the Melbourne Rebels will join the competition but Jones, who led the ACT Brumbies to the 2001 Super 12 title and has also coached the Queensland Reds, says the addition of the Rebels won't be good for Australian rugby or for the competition.

He says the four exisiting Australian franchises have already been stretched to produce quality players and the current 14-team competition is only finding its feet, with eight or nine teams title contenders.

Jones says another Australian team will simply weaken the third and fourth teams.
