Raiders add to Eels misery

8:46 am on 13 April 2010

A rugby league club in a slump became a club in crisis last night night when the one-time NRL premiership favourites Parramatta slumped to their fourth defeat with a 24-14 loss to Canberra at Parramatta Stadium.

The Eels showed little of the magic or heart that captivated the league at the back end of last year, with the architect of that brilliant run, Jarryd Hayne, again struggling to make an impact as the home side crashed to a four tries to three defeat.

Canberra had plenty of heroes as they surged to their first away win of the season, with five-eighth Terry Campese again the linchpin as he unleashed the Raiders' backline.

After five rounds St George Illawarra lead with eight points from Melbourne, Wests Tigers and Gold Coast with the Warriors sixth on six points behind Manly on differential but ahead of South Sydney, Penrith and the Sydney Roosters.
