Woods fails to meet expectations at Augusta

Tiger Woods came up short of his own expectations and promises and didn't exactly enhance his image despite finishing fourth at the Masters yesterday, his first golf tournament for nearly five months.

After clearly making an effort to modify his behaviour during the first two rounds, he was guilty of some ugly golf and behaviour when he was in contention over the weekend for his 15th major championship, looking like a club hacker at times during the final round, but still able to produce miraculous recovery shots.

In a frosty interview after his final round he indicated he'd be taking more time off, but gave no hint as to when he'd return to the PGA tour. It's possible he'll reappear early next month for the Players Championship in Florida, which boasts the strongest field of the year.
