Mt Maunganui golfer Brad Kendall survived a mid-round meltdown to win the national strokeplay championship at Hastings on Saturday.
The 18-year-old finished on 10 under par, one ahead of Australia's Matt Jager with another teen, Masterton's Ben Campbell, a shot further back in third place.
Kendall admits he wasn't that confident going into the final round, having never been in that position before, but says he just tried to focus on his own game.
The top 32 from the strokeplay qualify for the matchplay which continues until Tuesday.
