The world motor racing champion Jenson Button has a 10-point lead in this year's formula one championship after heading off Lewis Hamilton in a first one-two finish for the new team McLaren at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Thirty-year-old Button made the correct tyre choice as the rain came down at the start in Shanghai, and he took the chequered flag one-and-a-half seconds ahead of Hamilton.

The next three places went to Nico Rosberg, Fernando Alonso and Robert Kubica, while the

Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber finished sixth and eighth.

Renault's Vitaly Petrov celebrated his first finish in a formula one event, becoming the first Russian to win points in the sport as he overtook Michael Schumacher and Mark Webber in a blistering late burst to finish seventh.

There's a three week break before the next round in Barcelona.
