Already without star midcourter Kayla Cullen, who has a knee issue, the New Zealand side were also sweating on the fitness of shooting duo Maria Folau and Ameliaranne Ekenasio.

However, both have made good progress and Southby has said they will play a part in this week's tournament in Auckland.

Folau was dealing with a minor knee niggle, while Wells had a finger injury.

"Both have been good, Maria has been back on court which is great," Southby said.

"We'll keep managing her through the rest of the series, obviously with the Commonwealth Games as our end goal for her.

"They'll be taking part, it might be in full games or every game but that's the intention of their return to play plan."

The Silver Ferns first match of the tournament is against Malawi on Wednesday.

The hosts then face Jamaica on Thursday before completing the premliminary rounds against Fiji on Friday, with the playoff matches for first and third played on Saturday.

The Taini Jamison Trophy, which has been won on every occasion by New Zealand, is the last hit out for all four teams before the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast next month.
