The New Zealand rugby union may have suffered its biggest ever financial loss of almost $16 million, but it'll be bolstered by a share of a $150 million increase in revenue from television rights.
Earlier this month television broadcasters Sky television, Supersport and Fox Sports reached a deal with the New Zealand, South African and Australian rugby unions to extend its broadcast arrangements for a further five years.
SANZAR's now revealed the deal, which includes the Super 15, the All Blacks June test matches, and the Tri Nations, is worth $610 million, $150 million more than the previous agreement.
In a statement SANZAR and New Zealadn rugby union chief executive Steve Tew says the agreements represent a major vote of confidence in southern hemisphere rugby but he hasn't said what share of the $150 million the New Zealand union will receive.
