Bookmaker suspends betting on Melbourne Storm

Several Australian bookmakers have suspended betting on which team will finish last in the National Rugby League competition, after taking several bets for reigning champions Melbourne to finish last.

The Melbourne Storm who play the Warriors this weekend, are currently fourth on the NRL ladder and have been the subject of a salary cap investigation.

Sportingbet Australia spokesman Bill Richmond says his organisation took three $10 thousand dollar bets and another for $8 thousand one in the space of ten minutes this morning.

He says the only way a bookmaker gets a series of bets like that is if someone knows something, so they've decided to suspend betting on who'll get the NRL wooden spoon.
