The Belgian tennis player Kim Clijsters is in doubt for next month's French Open after suffering an injury while playing in the Fed Cup.

The former world number one hurt her left foot in the tie against Estonia and could be out for up to six weeks.

The French Open begins at Roland Garros in Paris on May 23rd.

Clijsters injured sesamoid bones in her left big toe in her 6-4 6-2 win over Maret Ani yesterday.

The 26-year-old returned to the WTA Tour last August after a two-and-a-half year break from tennis during which she married and started a family.

Her return reaped immediate rewards as she added a second US Open title to the one she won in 2005.

Earlier this month she thrashed Venus Williams in the Sony Ericsson Open final in Miami and is currently 11th in the world rankings.
